Tremblay and Coulombe Demoted

The Vancouver Canucks yesterday announced that defenceman Yannick Tremblay has been assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

The Manitoba Moose announced today that defenceman Patrick Coulombe has been assigned to the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL.

Last time Coulombe got demoted to the ECHL, he stayed for a week and then was recalled back to the AHL. Too small for the big leagues? I haven’t heard of many defenceman that made it to the NHL being 5′9″ and 163 pounds. How about try converting him to a forward and maybe he’ll become the next Martin St. Louis?!?!?!??!

Schneider expected to turn pro

Cory Schneider, the Canucks first round pick (26th overall) in 2004 is expected to turn pro and report to the Salmon Kings or Moose following the conclusion of his NCAA season with Boston College.

Canucks recall Nathan Smith

Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports the Vancouver Canucks have recalled centre Nathan Smith from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL late on Monday.

The best explanation I have as to why Smith was recalled is probably because Tommi Santala suffered a shoulder injury from the hit into the boards by Dustin Penner on Sunday against the Ducks.

Nathan Smith wore #29 with the Canucks last year, but it is unknown what number he will wear tonight if he plays because the number #29 was taken by Patrick Coulombe earlier this season.

Speaking of Coulombe, he was recalled by the Manitoba Moose from the Victoria Salmon Kings, a week after being sent to the ECHL.

Canucks recall Rick Rypien

TheAHL.com reports the Vancouver Canucks have recalled centre Rick Rypien from the Manitoba Moose.

The website also reports the Canucks have re-assigned defenceman Patrick Coulombe to the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL.
