Canucks re-assign Grabner and Rahimi to Moose

The Vancouver Canucks will re-assign forward Michael Grabner from the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL and Daniel Rahimi from Bjorkleven IF in Sweden to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL once they’ve secured amateur tryout contracts with the Moose.

Grabner, 19, and his WHL team the Spokane Chiefs were recently eliminated from the WHL playoffs by the Everett Silvertips in 6 games. In 55 games with the club during the regular season, he scored 39 goals and added 16 assists. He was held to one assist in playoffs. Grabner was originally Vancouver’s first pick, 14th overall in 2006.

Rahimi, 19, was Vancouver’s second choice, 82nd overall in 2006. Less than a month after being drafted by the Canucks, he was signed to a three-year contract that will pay him at least $750,000 US per year.

Tremblay and Coulombe Demoted

The Vancouver Canucks yesterday announced that defenceman Yannick Tremblay has been assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

The Manitoba Moose announced today that defenceman Patrick Coulombe has been assigned to the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL.

Last time Coulombe got demoted to the ECHL, he stayed for a week and then was recalled back to the AHL. Too small for the big leagues? I haven’t heard of many defenceman that made it to the NHL being 5′9″ and 163 pounds. How about try converting him to a forward and maybe he’ll become the next Martin St. Louis?!?!?!??!

Tremblay, 31, has suited up in 10 games in his first season with the Vancouver Canucks so far. He has one goal and two assists all recorded in his Vancouver Canuck debut on December 8, 2006.

Sami Salo must be out again, he admitted yesterday that he wasn’t 100% yesterday in Colorado. Salo is more of an offensive defenceman, so it makes more sense to recall Tremblay who is an offensive defenceman rather than for example Alex Edler, whose more of a defensive defenceman.

Canucks re-assign Alexander Edler

The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they’ve re-assigned defenceman Alexander Edler to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

Also, Sami Salo who has missed the last three games with a groin injury will return to the lineup tonight.

The article linked above is definitely worth reading, it gives you an update on all the prospects in the Canucks organization as well as scouting reports. It also lists their top 20 Canucks prospects.

Also, both Willie Mitchell and Sami Salo missed practice today and will not make the trip to Edmonton for tomorrow’s game. Lukas Krajicek also missed practice because of the flu, but made the trip and will play tomorrow; he was sick yesterday too.

Canucks sign Mason Raymond

The Vancouver Canucks announced on Friday that they’ve signed prospect Mason Raymond to a three-year entry-level contract.

Raymond will report to the Manitoba Moose.

Correction to what I said before, he is under contract to the Canucks and could be called up tomorrow to the Canucks if they wanted.

Mason Raymond turns pro

Mason Raymond, the Canucks’ second choice, 51st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft has “decided to forego their final two years of collegiate eligibility at the University of Minnesota Duluth to play professionally.”

Raymond will report to the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.

Raymond wore #11 with the Bulldogs and that number is available with the Moose, so he’ll probably wear that number. But he’ll have to pick a different number if he cracks the NHL lineup because the #11 has been unofficially retired by the Canucks because of the untimely death of Wayne Maki. Messier is the only one that has worn it since it was unofficially retired.

Canucks re-assign Nathan Smith

The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they’ve re-assigned centre Nathan Smith to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

Also, Smith was recalled on an emergency basis because Tommi Santala was out with shoulder spasms, so the Canucks still have 3 call-ups left until the end of the regular season.

Tommi Santala will play tonight on the fourth line.
